Why Get a Monthly Massage

October 29th, 2024
Many years ago, I started getting massages, and I came back every single month. I had so many questions and every month, I swear I had some issue or another. I worked in an office and at the time, we didn’t realize it was so unhealthy, but lack of circulation alone makes that just as bad as smoking a pack a day!

Massage has so many benefits that combat our modern day lifestyle. Have you experienced any of these symptoms in the past year?

stress and anxiety
sleep issues
pain and muscle tension
impaired immune function
constipation
fibromyalgia symptoms
cancer pain

As well as enhancing overall well-being, massage can help with all of these symptoms!

The value of getting regular massage is immeasurable and those that do, often feel less of any of the above symptoms and may even live a longer life.

Therefore I am so happy to introduce my massage membership to help you! It’s just a 50 minute massage for only $76, so sign up now, because it will only be for a limited time and number of people.

CranioSacral Therapy Explained

August 30th, 2024

There are several therapies that can augment the treatment of chronic conditions. One such modality is craniosacral therapy, also known as CST. CST offers advantages for a variety of health concerns, including chronic pain, headaches, fibromyalgia, as well as depression and anxiety.

CST is a complementary treatment that releases tensions deep in the body to help reduce pain, relieve dysfunction, and improve whole-body health and performance. By facilitating the body’s natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventive healthcare measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease.

The skull and the sacrum are connected via the spine. The spinal cord and brain make up the central nervous system (CNS).

Connective tissues and cerebrospinal fluid work alongside the structures of the CNS, and help it to work properly.

The craniosacral system refers to the skull, cerebrospinal fluid, and the membranes of the brain and the spinal cord.

Where a therapist identifies an imbalance, they reposition the client to “release” the flow of fluid. Some people fall asleep, others enter a meditative state and feel relaxed or energized (sometimes both).  By using a soft touch, lighter than 5 grams, restrictions on the bone and membrane are helped to release.

The body is capable of healing itself, under the right conditions and circumstances.

Craniosacral therapy is considered to be more than just a way to help reduce stress and tension in the body.

Cerebrospinal fluid is produced in the center of the brain in hollow spaces called ventricles. The production and absorption of this colorless fluid by the three membranes of the brain and spinal cord cause a rhythmic expansion and contraction in the cerebrospinal system.

Helps the body regain Harmony

The Cranial Rhythm or Cranial Rhythmic Impulse is the rhythmic motion. The expansion and contraction stages are flexion and extension.  Dr. William Sutherland, who pioneered cranial osteopathy in the ’30s and ’40s, referred to the craniosacral rhythm as the “Breath of Life.”
He believed that all other rhythms and flows in the body, such as the rhythm of breathing and the blood flow, were connected to and influenced by the flow of craniosacral fluid.

When the Breath of Life becomes restricted, for whatever reason, the other rhythms and flows are put out of balance. Craniosacral therapy helps the body to regain harmony.

The hands-on, rhythmic movements of craniosacral therapy create small vibrations that help the different parts of the Central Nervous System, and the body in general, by encouraging better communication.

CST was pioneered and developed by John E. Upledger after extensive scientific studies from 1975 to 1983 at Michigan State University. CranioSacral Therapy is a gentle, hands-on approach to evaluating and enhancing the craniosacral system.

This gentle therapy has been proven to help with headaches, migraines, concussions, chronic pain, temporomandibular joint disorder, Alzheimers, scoliosis, autism, sleep disorders, chronic fatigue, emotional difficulties, depression, spinal cord injuries and much more!  For more information, check out http://www.upledger.com

Benefits of a Massage

August 13th, 2024

Almost everyone loves massage, but did you know that there are MANY health benefits also:

De-Stress – Many people experience stress due to the fast pace of modern life. A good massage can significantly reduce stress and greatly improve mood. The Touch Research Institute has scientifically proven that massages can lower cortisol levels by 53% and increase the levels of dopamine and serotonin. Regular massages can also be beneficial in treating anxiety and depression, making them a valuable tool for mental health.

Relieves Headaches – The National Headache Foundation states that over 28 million Americans suffer from headaches, particularly migraines, often triggered by poor sleep and stress. Studies indicate that massage therapy can lead to better sleep quality and, consequently, fewer migraines and headaches. For those who frequently experience headaches, massage therapy could be a viable treatment option.

Reduces Back Pain – Back pain is a common issue that leads many to consider massage therapy. It is an effective treatment for back pain, surpassing spinal modification and acupuncture in effectiveness. It can also reduce the reliance on painkillers by 36%. Since back pain affects many people at some point, massage therapy stands out as an effective non-invasive treatment option.

Increases Flexibility – Maintaining flexibility is crucial at any age, whether for a professional athlete or someone in their mid-40s. A decrease in flexibility can make daily activities challenging. Massage therapy can address this by working on muscles, tendons, and ligaments, and by promoting the production of natural lubricants within connective tissues.

Lowers Blood Pressure – Research has shown that regular massage therapy can contribute to lower blood pressure.  According to various studies, it has been found that regular massage sessions help to reduce systolic and diastolic blood pressure. It has also been found to reduce cortisol levels in the body and it can reduce anxiety, tension, hostility etc that cause high blood pressure. As a result, massage therapy is an excellent additional treatment for those who suffer from high blood pressure and it will help to reduce the risk of stroke, kidney failure, heart attack etc.

Improves Posture – The majority of people experience neck, back and muscle pain due to a variety of reasons. However, one of the more common reasons is poor posture. Unfortunately, back pain due to poor posture is the second most common cause of disability. This happens when you have poor posture while sitting, standing, being overweight, doing repetitive movements etc.

The benefits listed above are just a few and there are many more. Massage can help to greatly increase the quality of your life, reduce pain, decrease stress and make you happier and healthier in general. Contact us today and reserve a spot for a massage in Dallas at Sweet Lemon Spa!

The Holistic Approach to Elasticity

May 31st, 2024

The holistic approach to addressing the loss of elasticity in the skin involves understanding and treating the underlying causes rather than just the symptoms. Here are the key elements of this approach:

  1. Identifying Causes:
    • Loss of Muscle Mass: This can occur due to repeated Botox injections and normal aging.
    • Loss of Volume: Often caused by shrinking facial fat pads, which can be due to excess sugar and/or alcohol consumption.
    • Damage to Collagen and Elastin Fibers: Commonly caused by sun damage and gravity.
  2. Osmosis Protocols:
    • Catalyst: This powerful serum maximizes the benefits of vitamin C for DEJ (Dermal-Epidermal Junction) health and is clinically proven to increase elasticity by 110%. Catalyst
    • Recovery: Targets structural fat pads in the face, neck, and body, improving the appearance of elasticity, firmness, and wrinkles. Recovery
    • Regenerate: Provides a perfect blend of critical amino acids to help maximize liver, collagen, and skin health. Regenerate
  3. Holistic Rejuvenation:
    • Inside-Out Approach: Emphasizes the importance of treating the skin from within by addressing internal factors such as diet, hydration, and overall health.
    • Barrier Health: Focuses on healing the skin without harming it, maintaining the skin barrier intact by using bioavailable nutrients and delivery systems that provide safe and effective results.
  4. Environmental and Lifestyle Factors:
    • Environmental Stressors: UV radiation, pollution, and toxins can accelerate collagen breakdown.
    • Immunity & Inflammation: Addressing these can help maintain skin health.
    • Emotional Influence: Acknowledging and managing stress and emotions can positively impact skin health.

For more detailed information on the professional protocol for loss of elasticity, you can visit the Professional Protocol for Loss of Elasticity page.

By following these holistic principles and using the recommended Osmosis products, you can effectively address the loss of elasticity and improve your skin’s overall health and appearance.

Luxury Brazilians – a SWS exclusive!!!

July 6th, 2022

How is the word Brazilian (synonymous with tortuous pain) and Luxury in the same sentence???

IT is because I have revolutionized Brazilians!!!  And the experience I give is hands down the best you will get!  There was a time, when I first learned sugaring that I gave a basic experience like everyone else, but then I had to give a sweet friend a brazilian before her wedding and I wanted it to be better, so I became better!!

HOW????

First of all I schedule extra time for each Luxury Brazilian – extra time for questions, maybe you’d like and LED treatment for your face during, or maybe you need extra time for more hygiene because you are coming from work, have questions about skin care, products, etc.

every Luxury Brazilian includes lidocaine (unless you are allergic or don’t want)

While the lidocaine is manifesting numbness (takes 5-10 min) I perform a shoulder/neck massage

I also use ancient recipe of a sugar and lemon mixture – the method originated in the Middle East centuries ago, where brides to be were rid of every hair the night before their wedding.

Sugaring is done at room temperature – it does not need to be heated, which could hurt skin and cause hours of downtime post hot wax.

Glycolic acid is sugar, therefore it does exfoliate a little bit and can brighten dark spots as well as reduce ingrown hairs.

Post treatment includes a calming spray created for post Brazilian treatments.  We can also ADD a cooling calming mask to bring down any redness and rehydrate the skin!

There is no DOWNTIME..  It’s a sharp pinch, then 30 seconds later, there is NO pain.  After you walk out the door, feel free to swim, exercise, go to the sauna, layout, ride a horse or even have sex.

The next time WILL be better, as less hair will grow back each treatment.

You have nothing to lose!  If you had one of my basic Brazilians, I apologize now and invite you to raise your expectations to getting one of my Luxury Brazilians – make this an unforgettable summer!

Why Use Professional Skincare?

January 17th, 2020

With all the choices out there in skincare, no doubt it is confusing!
You may even feel it’s more convenient to choose something from the grocery store, Ulta or Sephora.
I get it! It’s just skincare, why does it matter or you may be on a budget, why spend more?

Unfortunately skincare is not very well regulated by the FDA. Many times, clients come to me with skin issues, only to find out that what they are using is causing the problem, either because of ingredients or it was the wrong type of product all along. Frankly, when you purchase that $10 cleanser, do you wonder what the ingredients are? How is this so much less expensive than professional products?

BTW, my professional cleansers are only $22!

The reason these companies are able to profit is because they use less expensive ingredients, questionable fragrances (these are ingredients that they usually don’t tell you about). And what might they be covering up with those sinthetic ingredients and perfumes? In order for these companies to make a profit, you can bet on your hard earned dollar, that the expensive, active ingredients they promote are very diluted. Cutting back on the key active ingredient makes the product more profitable, but at the expense of making them less effective.

Professional products, on the other hand have been fully researched to do what they promise to do, provided they are used properly and consistently. For example, the Osmosis Beauty MD Vitamin C serum, known as Catalyst AC-11, has been proven to improve skin elasticity by 110%, reduction of broken capillaries and redness by 64%, 15% tightening of the eyelids and 15% reduction in cancerous skin lesions. I personally use it on a twice-daily basis and it has definitely helped my skin health.

I started using Osmosis products a few years ago because of the effectiveness and the founder is very involved in how products are utilized as well as acts as an advisor to us when asked.

The Osmosis Beauty Philosophy: “We believe everyone deserves a skincare experience that is healthy, not harmful. Our skincare treats the skin with kindness, not harshness. Our unique philosophy is based on analyzing the skin and body as a whole to treat skin conditions at the source restoring beauty and wellness. Osmosis provides the tools needed to create the ideal environment to encourage real results and overall radiance.
Over 10 years ago, we were inspired by the boldy innovative mind of our founder to create skincare products and treatments that combine the purity of naturally sourced ingredients with revolutionary doctor-developed formulas backed by rigorous scientific validation to deliver products that really work.”

New PROMOTION:
Purchase a bundle (cleanser, mist, serum & moisturizer) and get 20% off!
To make it more convenient if you need to purchase products in between facials, I am happy to pull the products needed and have them available for pickup for you right outside my door. I can charge your card, send an invoice via email or Venmo.

Not sure of what you need? I am so happy to help you either via email or text or for a short consultation. Send me a selfie and a description of what is going on and I can help you or find out from Dr. Ben Johnson, the founder of Osmosis to determine what is going on and what the treatment should be.

Why I do not offer Microdermabrasion

January 13th, 2020

Microdermabrasion has been around a long time. I have even received microdermabrasion many years ago, before I began my career as an esthetician. The technician used a high level of suction during my treatment and the harshness of having the top layer of skin scrubbed off, it actually increased the depth of the lines around my mouth. (Dont’ worry, they are all gone now because of the treatments and skincare I now use) I was extremely upset!!! My thoughts were further validated when I attended Aveda for esthetician school, and we were taught that the suction actually breaks down the elastin in our skin. A few years later, after starting my business, an esthetician across the way from me moved and sent her clients to me. She did regular microdermabrasion treatments on them and when I was able to analyze their skin, it was very lax, dull, droopy. Very sad! They paid lots of money to make their skin even worse.

WHAT DOES MICRODERMABRASION ACTUALLY DO
This treatment literally scrubs away your stratum corneum (top layer of epidermis.) Skin is left red and inflamed, dehydrated and damage is done to the barrier. The idea of scrubbing away dead skin sounds appealing, however it destroys the health of skin and causes it to look worse.

HOW TO TAKE CARE OF YOUR SKIN
What we need to do for our skin is simple: repair if you have been doing microdermabrasion treatments or other excessive exfoliation. Keep skin balanced and healthy by regularly nourishing and hydrating, no matter what type. Enzyme exfoliation is the safest way and can be done daily in a gentle enzyme cleanser or weekly mask. Enzyme exfoliation is a type of chemical exfoliation that breaks down the “glue” that holds dead, dulling skin cells together. It is the most gentle way to shed skin cells and speed up the skin’s natural exfoliation process. Get regular, holistic, professional treatments and use the products your esthetician recommends! It’s the only face you get and it’s the first thing people see.

Do you have a “gut” feeling that your skin and gut are related?

August 16th, 2018

Do you know the power of your own gut? Your body is full of trillions of bacteria, viruses and fungi.  While some bacteria are associated with disease, others are actually extremely important for your immune system, heart, weight and many other aspects of health.  The food you eat directly affects the health of your gut.

Leaky Gut

The human digestive tract is where food is broken down and nutrients are absorbed.  The digestive system also plays an important role in protecting your body from harmful substances.  The walls of the intestines act as barriers, controlling what enters the bloodstream to be transported to your organs.  Small gaps in the intestinal wall called tight junctions of intestinal walls become loose, the gut becomes more permeable, which may allow bacteria and toxins to pass from the gut into the bloodstream.  This is called “leaky gut.”

When the gut is leaky and bacteria and toxins enter the bloodstream, it can cause widespread inflammation and possibly trigger a reaction from the immune system.  In addition, toxins are therefore excreted through our skin and mucus membranes.  Which can lead to other health concerns.

Holistic Help Available

A cleansing of the mucus of the gut becomes vital to restoring health.  Also, help with digestion is conducive to restoring gut and whole body health.  And then, long term detoxification program is recommended – make a skincare consultation and let’s get started today on recovering your gut and whole body health.

Dark Under Eye Circles and Puffiness

April 13th, 2018

Zone 3 is the area underneath the lower eyelid.  Dark circles and puffiness of this region usually occur from kidney stress caused by lack of sleep, caffeine and other stimulants, and excessive use of over-the-counter pain relief medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen.  Anxiety and heavy stress can cause strain on the kidneys as well.  Knowing the cause of the conditions helps us accurately treat it rather than just temporarily subduing the symptoms.  Address the necessary lifestyle changes (like swap that second or third cup of coffee for a green or herbal tea).

Also, addressing the skin itself by building up the collagen/elastin by using the proper Vitamin A Serum can also be beneficial.  Treatments that help would be Microcurrent, Facial Infusion and LED – separately or by doing a monthly Radiance Facial, which includes all 3.

Have questions?  Please feel free to reach out – call/text or email!  I am happy to help!

Do you use a Vitamin A Serum?

April 13th, 2018

Lines and wrinkles occur because collagen and fat in your skin break down over time. You cannot scrub out, laser out, exfoliate or wash away wrinkles. You have to combat fine lines and wrinkles from beneath the surface of the skin!  The proper Vitamin A product is an absolute game changer!

Acne is a signal of toxicity and/or yeast overgrowth in the gut – this has to be stopped there. Exfoliation will not stop acne, merely help the effects of what is happening in the gut.  Yet one serum, is very helpful in undoing all the damage caused by the acne, and that is Vitamin A, but which form?

You have to stop collagen from breaking down and encourage collagen regrowth to fill in the areas on your face that have wrinkled over time. You need to nourish your skin and feed it the right things to encourage regrowth!!

Retinols, Retinals or RetinA?

Whether it’s acne you are trying to control or smoothing the wrinkles, new research has brought to light the fact that Retinol does not penetrate the skin well and is used at a high percentage by skincare companies to create epidermal inflammation, which creates epidermal plumping.  It is 1000 times less likely to stimulate collagen than Retinal (retinaldehyde) because the skin does not use retinols for that purpose.  No research has ever shown retinol stimulates collagen.  Research shows Retinal (reinaldehyde) stimulates collagen equal to RetinA.  The skin uses Retinal to make collagen/elastin by converting it in one step to RetinA.  However, RetinA is not designed to stay in the skin, it is designed to be made on demand, then utilized.  Also, RetinA topically is highly toxic and thins the dermis by 18%.  Retinal is the only collagen stimulator proven to be as powerful as RetinA but is not irritating, sun sensitizing, drying nor does it destroy the epidermis like RetinA.

Quit aging and breaking out – use a Retinal – I carry 4 formulas:  One for barrier challenged skin/roseacea, another for Acne, and two additional stronger formulas to resurface aging skin, building up the epidermis.  All are a liposomal Retinal that stimulates collagen by 1000 times better.  Non drying, non-irritating, non sun-sensitizing, and builds up your epidermis!  Call today to get a skin consultation to see which one is best for you!
